About the Position: This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DOD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. You will serve as a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic (Inspection), WG-5803-10 at the Pueblo Chemical Depot in Pueblo, Colorado.

Duties

Utilize measuring instruments to check and adjust precision clearances on heavy equipment. Troubleshoot equipment to determine necessary repairs and adjustments. Perform road tests under actual load conditions, and makes operating tests to determine that equipment is functioning properly. Utilize testing equipment to determine malfunctions of operating systems. Remove, disassemble, inspect, replaces replace defective comments, reassemble, adjust, test and reinstall all major system components on heavy equipment on equipment. Utilize testing equipment to determine malfunctions of operating systems. Interpret technical manuals to determine repair or modification requirements.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • The incumbent of this position must be able to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • The position requires incumbent to have HAZMAT Endorsement on CDL.
  • Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 7412, Condition of Employment identified safety sensitive under the Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration rules on Drug and alcohol testing.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). Incumbent must pass initial and random DRUG TESTING.
  • Incumbent must pass an initial and annual medical examination to perform the essential functions of this job (physical such as hearing/visual, etc.).
  • Incumbent is required to wear protective clothing and equipment clothing and equipment, such as laboratory apron, gloves, safety glasses, face shields, protective gas masks, etc.
  • This position requires lifting up to 50 pounds in regular performance of duties.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Inspector without more than normal supervision. Such work includes demonstrated experience performing engine tune ups (I.e. clean or replace filters, battery cables, engine components and injector nozzles), changing brakes and bleeding system and performing minor electrical work (change fuses, re-wiring/splicing). - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work is performed in tiring positions, such as kneeling, standing, bending, crouching, and stooping, and includes lifting, pulling or pushing of parts (normally 50 lbs. or less). Lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers and with lifting devices, such as, jacks, hoists and cranes. Good eyesight and hearing are needed to detect deficiencies.+ WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and occasionally outside, frequently in cramped and awkward positions; shop area is frequently heated; dirty, greasy, and noisy; possibility exists for injury from dropped units and parts, slipping tools, or slipping from work positions. Incumbent is exposed to cuts, bruises, burns and electrical shock. Inside work is usually performed on concrete floors and involves frequent exposure to exhaust fumes.
