Duties
Responsible for the technical/administrative supervision of professional, technical, clerical, and administrative positions to carry out the mission of the organization; plans work to be accomplished by subordinates.
Develops and administers the planning, budget, and implementation activities for the minerals, cultural and lands programs; responsible for programming and annual budgeting submissions; ensures program accomplishments are within budget allocations.
Plans and directs, through Geologist, Archeologists, Realty Specialists and Land Law Examiner, a comprehensive mineral, cultural and lands program.
Prepare cultural resource inventory requests, cultural inventories, section 106 consultation, field authorizations for third party cultural and paleontological inventories, implementation of the antiquities act.
Works with Field Manager and District manager, crafting succession plans for filling upcoming vacancies and create a ?target organization? to meet future demands on the organization.

Qualifications
Education Requirement: This is an interdisciplinary position with a positive education requirement. You must meet the education requirements for at least one of the professional series below:

For 0193 Archaeologist:
- Have a BA/BS degree in archeology or a related discipline that included 3 semester hours each in the following course areas: history of archeology; archeology of a major geographical area; regional archeology; theory and methods of archeology; archeological field school; AND 6 semester hours of courses in geography, geology, or cultural geography; history; historiography or historical archeology; environmental studies; scientific writing and/or surveying, OR
- Have a degree in anthropology, history, American studies, or a related discipline that included academic course work similar to that stated above; OR
- Have a combination of education and experience equivalent to a major in archeology or related disciplines appropriate to the position advertised; OR
- Have four years of archeological work experience that demonstrates a thorough knowledge of fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology AND included archeology field experience equivalent to archeological field school.
For 0401 Natural Resources Specialist:
- Have a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR
- Have a combination of education and experience - have completed courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
For 1301 Physical Scientist:
- Have a degree in physical science, engineering or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials and electronics; OR
- Have a combination of education and experience-education equivalent to one of the majors listed above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Specialized Experience requirements:
GS-12: Must possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is further defined as experience working in a Natural Resource environment assisting in the preparation of land use plans, interdisciplinary activity plans and/or ecosystem plans; leads and/or coaches individuals in planning and organizing management objectives; communicate effectively to a variety of audiences.
There is no substitution of education for experience at the GS-12 grade level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.
Physical Demands: The work is sedentary most of the time. As a first line supervisor field work with staff will be required on occasion that include hiking, walking, exposure to weather conditions with temperatures from 100 degrees to below zero with exposure to sun, wind, rain, and snow.
Work Environment: The work is performed primarily in an office setting. Incumbent will be required to go to the Field with staff specialists on occasion. Occasional travel inside and outside of the Field Office, including occasionally to the Nevada State Office.
Education
This position has a positive education requirement which requires that you have a degree and falls under the OPM qualification standard for the 0193, 0401 and/or 1301 job series and have Individual Occupational Requirements. See qualification section for description of the Basic Education Requirement (BER).
