About the Position: The position is located at Dugway Proving Grounds, Utah. The clinic provides occupational health and industrial hygiene services.

Duties

Responsible for planning and administering an industrial hygiene program for a complex, multi-mission installation. Serves as the industrial hygienist for the Army Material Command/Army Medical Command Partnership Program which oversees the storage, management, reconfiguration, and demilitarization of chemical warfare agent configured munitions. Conducts periodic surveys of working conditions to determine the nature and magnitude of hazardous exposures and the effectiveness of existing control measures. Makes work assignments; establishes performance standards and completes work within the confines of established directives and policies. Prepares and supports program budgetary and manpower feeder information to include the preparation of program budget requirements.

Basic Requirement for Industrial Hygienist: A bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or a related science. My education was accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. My education was accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Have a certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes planning and administering an industrial hygiene program for a complex, multi-mission installation to include military activities engaged in a range of light to highly complex industrial processes. Providing technical input into the ongoing process of testing detectors, PPE and decontamination equipment in various scenarios against chemical and biological warfare agents and stimulants. Conduct periodic surveys of working conditions to determine the nature and magnitude of hazardous exposures and the effectiveness of existing control measures, such as chemical fume hoods, administrate controls, and personal protective equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
