About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.

Duties

Repairs, maintains, service and overhauls electronic,electric and pneumatic controls and instrumentation used in heating, cooling, ventilation, humidification and dehumidification systems. Installs and puts into operation expansions to the existing energy management control system (EMCS). Analyzes drawings, blueprints, manufacturers' brochures, specifications and other data. Perform troubleshooting procedures, and to give guidance to other mechanics on these systems.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid Government Motor Vehicle Operators Identification Card (OF 346) to operate vehicles.

Maintenance and/or repair of electronic equipment such as microprocessor-based field interface devices fiber optic cable, receivers and/or transmitters, printer circuit boards, electronic transducers and/or electronic temperature sensing devices used in heating, cooling, ventilation, humidification, and dehumidification systems. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element)Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Theory of ElectronicsUse of Test Equipment: Electronics PHYSICAL EFFORT Light to moderate physical exertion is required in lifting and carrying items weighing from 10 to 40 pounds and occasionally heavier objects. Mechanics are required to bend, stoop and stand for extended periods of time. Works in awkward positions and uses ladders. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed both inside and outside. Mechanic is subject to falls, burns, cuts, bruises, and electrical shocks. Required to wear appropriate safety gear.
