This internship is with the Cotton Production and Processing Research Unit in Lubbock, TX and will provide an opportunity to learn research procedures and participate in meeting the Agency objective of helping to feed the world.
Enrollment in the Pathways Internship Program as a Student Trainee will serve as a developmental experience and, in conjunction with formal education, provide the incumbent with the knowledge, skills, and abilities for employment in a civil service career.
Duties
Use engineering processes, methods, and techniques to participate in scientific experiments where equipment and methods are being evaluated;
Records specified data or instrument readings at specified intervals;
Determines whether the test data falls within normal limits and determines the apparent causes of deviations in the test data resulting from equipment malfunctions, observational errors, and other causes;
Constructs, modifies, and assembles equipment; and maintains and repairs equipment used in conducting research experiments. Assists in the assembly, installation, or operation of equipment, instruments, or facilities by performing specified tasks.
Use familiarity with CAD software (specifically AutoCAD Inventor) to support research objectives
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt
- Must be in good academic standing as defined by the agency as {define what has been established}
- Complete at least 640 hrs of work experience prior to completion of degree
- Enrolled at least half-time at a qualifying educational institution
- A signed participant agreement is required for employment under Pathways
- Satisfactory Background investigation and/or fingerprint check
- Successful completion of two-year trial period
- Direct Deposit Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution

All applicants must be currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a student on at least a half-time basis at a qualifying educational institution in a certificate, degree, or diploma program. Must be in good academic standing as defined by the institution they are attending. Must meet the definition of a student throughout the duration of their internship appointment.
Transcripts or proof of enrollment are required.
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. The specialized experience requirements for this position are:
GS-3: Education: 1 year above high school
