These positions are located in Patient Operations of the Health Administration Services at the Phoenix VA Health Care System in Phoenix, Arizona. The Telecommunications Equipment Operator is responsible for providing voice and data communication and all monitoring services to include support to the satellite clinical and administrative operations of this very complex facility.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include but may not be limited to: Serves as a central dispatcher receiving all incoming telephone calls requesting police assistance or service; Uses various equipment (computer, two-way radio, etc.) to transmit and receive communication to law enforcement and emergency personnel by voice or code; Alert first responders for all Fire and Intrusion Alarms, Panic Alarms, Medical gas monitors and emergency/behavior codes; Records all radio telephone communication transactions on appropriate control log and maintain logs and files complaints, emergency actions and reports; Prepares reports of activities and incidents encountered in accordance with required forms, office procedures, and techniques using various computer software programs; Handles routine and special switchboard calls, the voice paging system and wireless paging system; Interviews callers to evaluate, ascertain and document nature of call and, and refers incoming calls to appropriate personnel if necessary. (i.e., service chief, Mental Health professional, detective, etc.); Provides appropriate action and assistance during and after the event of a natural disaster occurrence (i.e., earthquakes, tornados, floods); Conducts Pager inventory for 2500 pagers issued to facility staff; and Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-5 level, applicants must meet one of the following qualifications: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-4) in the Federal service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Telecommunications Equipment Operator and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes using equipment such as computer and two-way radio or switchboard to transmit and receive emergency communications; and communicating with law enforcement and other emergency personnel. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. ~OR~ SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Requires 4 years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. ~OR~ COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience as described above may be used to meet total experience requirements. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
