This position is located within the Health Administration Service (HAS) at the VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, West Virginia. The primary purpose of this position is to provide the services and perform duties inherent in switchboard operations for the service.
Duties

Operates a telephone system to direct local, routine, and/or complicated long-distance calls of various precedence and security levels;
Monitors alarm systems and use radios to transmit information in emergency situations;
Receives and distributes all incoming calls and assists callers with questions;
Handles multiple calls or situations simultaneously, while remaining calm in stressful situations;
Utilizes computerized systems to retrieve and update information;
Monitors vital circuits and incoming emergency type calls such as those to security, the police, the fire
department, etc., to assure call completion and proper disposition;
Monitors, maintains or updates data, records or other information;
Retrieves and/or updates relevant information in computerized databases;
Responds to requests and/or resolve complaints from customers;
Deals with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed;
Informs supervisor or other official of issues or problems;
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday, 6:00am - 2:30pm (Subject to change)

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet one of the following:
Experience: You must have least one (1) year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates my ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Experience includes working as a receptionist or telephone operator; obtaining the necessary information to direct calls appropriately; communicating effectively with others; using a computer to provide clerical support; and working efficiently under pressure of time and stressful conditions. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. ~OR~
Education: Successfully completed two years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. Combination: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the first year) and experience, as described above, to meet total qualification requirements. Education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates.
