This position is part of the St Stephen's Indian School, Bureau of Indian Education. As a Secretary you will be responsible for serving as a Secretary in a BIE School on or near the Reservation. The Secretary position is the major support position for the BIE School leadership.

Duties

As a Secretary CY-0318-2, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision: The Secretary as the principle clerical assistant in the office, performing various clerical tasks in accordance with established procedures requiring knowledge of the office filing system and various references and handbooks commonly used and minor administrative and business details. Responsible for distributing and controlling mail. Maintaining leave records. Referring telephone calls and visitors to appropriate staff Establish meetings and travel for office staff, completing various forms including travel vouchers; code sheets, requisitions, etc. Requesting supplies, equipment and services. Setting up files and records; composing and typing routine correspondence; gathering and researching files; and preparing statistical or other reports.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a background clearance.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: Applicants with Indian Preference All U.S. Citizens Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements contained in the approved job category for P.L. 95-561 described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Education and Experience Requirements for the Secretary 0318-02: A High School or General Educational Development (GED) Diploma with two (2) years of college or secretarial training, and two (2) years of experience as a secretary. A High School or General Educational Development (GED) Diploma with four (4) years of experience as a secretary. An equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated in the two above bullets. Additional Certification Required: All applicants must submit a Self-Certification form for typing with their application packet. Education
