You will serve as an Aircraft Worker in the Production Trades Division, Industrial Execution Department of FLTREADCEN EAST. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will overhaul and repair a wide variety of aircraft systems and components. You will apply standardized and specific procedures to accomplish tasks of limited complexity. You will disassemble and assemble aircraft or major components for overhaul or modification. You will use common hand tools such as pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, tension meters, micrometers, bevel protractors, calipers, torque wrenches, plug gauges, and hydraulic test stands.

• You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• Tasks will be performed standing, sitting, and walking. At times, pulling. pushing, stooping and reaching are required with prolonged kneeling, bending, and squatting for four to six hours.
• Position is subject to various noise levels, which continuously exceed 84 DBA. Note: hearing protection must be worn for noise levels of 85 DBA.
• Near vision correctable at 14" to Jaeger 2. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20. Eye protection is required in hazardous areas in the form of glasses with side shield and face shield.

Examples of this Screen-out element are: The ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Performing repairs such as removing and replacing worn or damaged gaskets, pneudraulic/hydraulic lines and couplings, fuel cells, etc.; 2) Utilizing common hand tools such as pliers, wrenches, tension meters, hydraulic test stands, etc.; and 3) Reading and understanding specific directions including disassembly, assembly, and adjustments for tasks. Work is performed under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
