This position is located in the Camdenton Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) and Waynesville CBOC under the Audiology and Speech Pathology Service of the Specialty Care Service Line at Harry S Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital. The Audiologist performs independently the full range of audiological activities for the care of inpatients and outpatients presenting with the most difficult and complex hearing disorders.

Duties

This position is located in the Camdenton Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) and Waynesville CBOC under the Audiology and Speech Pathology Service of the Specialty Care Service Line at Harry S Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital. The duties and responsibilities are carried out primarily in the CBOC Clinics PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES In carrying out the clinical duties and responsibilities of this position, the incumbent: a. Applies advanced theories, current literature, and techniques to special patient populations, provide professional advice and counseling, and provide consultation in specialized areas of audiology; b. Exercises independent clinical judgment and adapts clinical procedures and techniques to accommodate age-specific and unique patient conditions, needs, and expectations. c. Uses a wide range of knowledge of, and skill in applying, a wide range theories, principles, and methodologies in the practice of audiology to a wide range of populations; d. Evaluates patients to determine nature, type, and severity of hearing and balance disorders using a full range of diagnostic tests and techniques, past, family, and social history, record review, and consultation with family and other health care practitioners; e. Provides consultation to other health care professionals; f. Has knowledge of contemporary audiology practice and the ability to perform functions associated with contemporary audiology practice. g. Performs compensation and pension examinations including detailed past, family, social, military, and occupational history, comprehensive evaluation of type and severity of hearing loss, tinnitus evaluation, special auditory and vestibular tests, and opinions on the relationship between conditions and military service when requested h. Consults with physicians and other health care practitioners related to diagnostic evaluation and treatment. Incumbent has advanced skill required for providing recommendations for evaluation and treatment of patients with vestibular pathology and all other audiologic related services. i. Documents in the medical record: evaluates, diagnosis and clinical opinion, treatment plans, outcomes of treatment, changes in functional status, and patient/family education. j. Attends interdisciplinary team meetings when necessary; participates with other health care practitioners to address the global needs of the patient, advises on diagnosis and treatment. Incumbent has skill set requiring knowledge of affects of TBI k. Assists in planning and coordinating the implementation of all audiology services to include consults, schedules, equipment, traineeships and computer based related activities within the audiological service. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/03/2023. Qualifications BASIC REQUIREMENTS: 1. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3.g. 2.Education. The individual must possess either of the below or on track to completing it by time of hire: Doctor of Audiology (AuD) from an audiology program recognized by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech- Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The CAA is the only accreditation agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to accredit entry-level audiology programs. HR office staff and management officials may verify the program accredited from CAA at www.caa.asha.org. You must submit a copy of your transcript showing you were awarded a doctoral degree or on track to completing it by time of hire that meets the stated requirements to receive credit. OR Other doctoral degree in hearing science or a directly related field from an institution accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. You must submit a copy of your transcript showing you were awarded a doctoral degree or on track to completing it by time of hire that meets the stated requirements to receive credit. NOTE: Effective January 1, 2007, the CAA in Audiology and Speech- Language Pathology of ASHA accredits only doctoral degree or AuD programs in audiology. Foreign Education. To be creditable, education completed outside the U.S. must have been submitted to a private organization specializing in the interpretation of foreign educational credentials. Such education must have been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. programs. You must submit your transcript showing you were awarded a doctoral degree and the documentation from the private organization that determined your foreign educational credentials were at least equivalent to a doctoral degree in audiology, hearing science, or a directly related field that meets the above requirements to receive credit. 3. Licensure. Individuals must hold a full, current and unrestricted license to practice audiology at the doctoral level in a United States state, territory, commonwealth or the District of Columbia. You must provide an unexpired copy of your licensure to receive credit. Exception: Non-licensed audiologists who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure may be given a temporary appointment as a graduate audiologist at the GS-11 grade under the authority of 38 U.S.C. ? 7405(c)(2) for a period not to exceed two years from the date of employment on the condition that these audiologists provide care only under the supervision of fully licensed audiologists. Failure to obtain the required credentials by the prescribed date will result in termination of employment. 4. Grandfathering Provision. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).5. English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. ? 7403(f).Grade Determinations: In addition to meeting the above Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Grade Determination criteria below: Audiologist, GS-11(a) Education. None beyond the basic requirements. (b) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs). In addition to the above the candidates must demonstrate all the following KSAs in their resume: Knowledge of principles and techniques in the assessment and treatment of auditory and balance disorders. Ability to perform functions associated with contemporary audiology scope of practice as defined by the American Academy of Audiology or the ASHA. Ability to interact with patients, families and other health care professionals. Audiologist, GS-12(a) Experience. In addition to the requirements at the GS-11 level, completion of one year of professional experience comparable to the next lower level.
