You will serve as a Rigging Worker or Rigger in the Machinery Programs and Platforms Department, Industrial Support Division of Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division (NSWC PHILA DIV).

Duties

You will be required to have an understanding of rigging practices for Hull, Mechanical and Electrical equipment and be capable of executing lifts of Hull, Mechanical and Electrical equipment and equipment acquired for shipbuilding programs. You will be is required to have a working knowledge of NAVFAC Publication P307, Management of Weight Handling Equipment and be capable of applying the requirements to complex lifts. You will plan, layout, assemble and install rigging, make complex judgments to rig and move objects in confined areas such as engine rooms, machine shops or test site passageways without the aid of cranes or other mobile material handling equipment. You will determine the exact placement of such items as pad eyes, beam clamps, and chain falls used to support the load along the route. You will be required to use complex multipoint suspension techniques to permit maneuvering over, under and around obstacles by tilting, dipping, and turning the suspension load. You will be required to recognize possible safety hazards and take steps to eliminate or control hazards such as damaged cables, connecting fittings or equipment, overloaded gear, or unauthorized personnel in the area of the move.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
