This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for DIB & MRTB to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Mass transportation is available at minimal cost. Youth and daily child care facilities are available. Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports/recreation activities.

Duties

Incumbent performs the full range of overhaul and repair work on ground tactical vehicles and heavy-duty mobile equipment. Completely disassembles engines (air cooled and liquid cooled), (V-engines, L-engines, and opposed engines; gas or multi-fuel) determining the extent of repair and/or rebuild required. Replaces starters, generators, ignition and wiring. Repairs, replaces and adjusts components of round tactical vehicles and heavy-duty mobile equipment.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a valid, State-issued motor vehicle driver's license.
  • This position requires successful completion of pre-placement medical examinations.
  • Temporary Duty Travel, TDY may be required up to 5% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic~ without more than normal supervision. have the ability to perform common Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic duties. I have performed basic repairs on heavy mobile equipment or vehicles. I have assisted in determining the cause of malfunctions and made recommendations for repairs to heavy mobile equipment. I have assisted making repairs to electrical systems on heavy mobile equipment or vehicles. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent works in tiring and uncomfortable positions for long periods. Work requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, crouching and laying. Sometimes works on top of and under equipment in cramped or awkward positions. Performs strenuous work while standing, lying or sitting. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 45 lbs, and often puts forth similar effort in pushing, pulling, turning, positioning, and adjusting parts, assemblies, equipment and tools. Lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers and/or lifting devices. WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbent may work inside or outside. Inside, they are frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperature and loud noise. Outside, they may work in bad weather, in rain or snow, or in wet or dry areas. Incumbent is frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from grease, oil, dust, heat, fumes, and hard damp floors or surfaces. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises, strains and electrical shock while repairing, positioning, adjusting and moving equipment; and is exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acids, fluids and lubricants. To reduce the dangers and irritations from the above conditions, the incumbent must follow numerous safety procedures, and wears equipment such as protective eye-glasses, ear devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, respirators, gloves and other protective clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use, and may be worn or used for long periods.
