About the Position: This position is located at US Army Installation Management Command, US Army Garrison Fort Hunter Liggett, Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security Training Division Training Branch, Fort Hunter Liggett, California.
We are located on the Central Coast of California between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The nearest towns to Fort Hunter Liggett are King City 26 miles north and Paso Robles 50 miles south.
Duties
Coordinate range operations for active component, reserve component, National Guard units and local and federal law enforcement.
Operate Range Control Communication Center.
Coordinate emergency responses and Aero-medical Evacuations (MEDEVACs) with appropriate agencies.
Ensure activities are scheduled and coordinated.
Use proper radio and telephone procedures to establish and maintain constant contact with training units.
Disseminate weather information via radio communications.
Advise aircraft operating in restricted airspace of any firing or training hazardous to flight.
Ensure all facilities are properly cleared.
Ensure daily range and training area utilization data is entered into the Range Facility Management Scheduling System (RFMSS).
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid state driver's license for operation of government vehicles in the performance of work.
- The incumbent will be required to work flexible hours to include some nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to attend and successfully complete Range Operations Professional Development (ROPD) Phase 3 - 4B within first year of employment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes work that involves operating a radio room or range inspector section; ensuring proper control over the use of live fire training areas, maneuver training areas, and training facilities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Emergency and Disaster Management or Instructional Technology and Adult Education.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
