About the Position: This position is in Technical Support Branch, Operations Division located in South El Monte, California. Recruitment/Relocation incentives may be authorized.

Duties

Plans and conducts field investigations and preparing reports related to environmental and biological aspects of District projects. Makes field investigations to visualize and review existing conditions, and recommend use of Government-owned land; studies suitability for ecological purposes and/or wildlife habitat development and as directed, makes contacts with Federal agencies Prepares, coordinates, and updates environmental impact statements or assessments required by P.L. 91-190 for Corps and regulatory projects. Performs research assemble data on conditions, reviews proposals to obtain data on anticipated changes to water and land areas, and makes initial determination concerning anticipated results as specifically related to the fish and wildlife resource. Reviews policies, regulations, and directives to provide guidelines and controls for biological studies. Reviews documents, accumulates background information, compiles and analyzes technical data, develops feasible alternatives, and prepares sections of EAs, and EISs, or Section 404 reports.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Biologist: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. AND In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in the preparation of environmental studies, plans and conducts field investigations; reviews technical aspects of applications, design, or proposed plans for compliance with laws, regulations, standards, specifications, or other requirements and criteria.. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal serivce (GS-07). OR Education: Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in one of the professional fields listed above. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education above 1 year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) Specialized Experience for GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) the preparation of environmental studies, 2) Studies suitability for ecological purposes and/or wildlife habitat development 3) Prepares, coordinates, and updates environmental impact statements or assessments 4) Participates in studies of proposed flood control works, navigation, environmental enhancement, and other water resources projects for compliance with laws, regulations, standards, specifications, or other requirements and criteria. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal serivce (GS-09). Or Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Natural Resources Management, biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry fish and wildlife administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
