The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is the United States Department of Agriculture's chief scientific research agency and one of the world's premiere scientific organizations. ARS Postdoctoral Research Associates are hired to supplement a lead scientist's research on agricultural problems of high national priority affecting American agriculture. This position is located at the New Orleans Southern Regional Research Center. **ANNOUNCEMENT IS OPEN UNTIL FILLED or 07/12/2024**

Duties

Assist Food Technologist to develop and conduct sensory and consumer research related to plant-based protein foods. Investigate effects of protein texturization technologies on sensory characteristics and acceptance of new food products. Work independently and collaborate with other scientist with the overall goal of identifying effective strategies for development of new plant-based protein foods.

Qualifications

This position requires a Ph.D in Food Science, Human Nutrition, or a related human science (e.g., Psychology, Sociology, Marketing) or a related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Applicants must meet basic Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standard's requirements of the scientific discipline necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Food Technology (1382): Degree: food technology, or dairy technology, microbiology, biology, chemistry, physics, or a related discipline or field of biological or physical science. The course work must have been comprised of at least 30 semester hours in the basic biological and physical sciences and included at least 20 semester hours in food technology and closely related subjects, or 20 semester hours in subjects that can be applied directly to food technology. OR Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major including the course work specified, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
