About the Position: The incumbent will serve as an Environmental Protection Assistant for the Directorate of Public Works (DPW) in Fort Riley, KS.
Duties
Conduct environmental compliance inspections throughout the organization.
Issue notice of non-compliance to personnel in conjunction with guidance regarding how to meet environmental requirements.
Conduct environmental follow-up inspections as required.
Respond to specific inquiries from personnel regarding the handling of situations such as disposal and/or spillage of hazardous waste.
Enter information regarding schedules, inspections, and results into a computerized database.
Provide training and assistance to personnel at inspected facilities regarding environmental requirements.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Work longer days than the standard working hours necessary to complete the duties in the required timeframes.
- The ability to obtain and maintain government driver?s license for up to a 1 ton vehicle. The license must be obtained within 3 weeks of coming onboard.
- Physical Exam is required. Mixture of sedentary and walking, standing, bending, carrying/moving moderate to heavy items (30 - 50 lbs) in warehouse/industrial settings and occasionally over uneven terrain, and/or climb ladders (<5 ft).
- Work to be performed in inclement weather conditions and in temperatures ranging from <20?F to >100?F. Moderate periods (~3 hrs) of using a keyboard and looking at computer monitors to accomplish mission needs.
- Will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as hardhats, gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, and coveralls during the work shift.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1). Conduct environmental compliance inspections to ensure regulatory requirements are met; 2). Prepare documentation pertaining to inspection results to cite violations and provide guidance regarding how to meet environmental protection regulations; and 3). Enter information into a computerized database to track the scheduling of inspections in conjunction with the inspection results.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as environmental science.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
