The primary purpose of this position, AIRCRAFT MECHANIC LEADER, WL-8852-10 is to lead three or more employees to install, adjust, align, troubleshoot, and perform final functional and operational tests on a variety of major aircraft systems, their assembles, and components.
Duties
Set the work pace while working with a crew of 3 or more employees in performing troubleshooting on a variety of major aircraft systems, their assemblies, and components.
Disassemble, repair, and reassemble major aircraft systems, their assemblies, and components.
Accomplish operational and maintenance record keeping, both manual and automated, associated with aircraft maintenance and repair.
Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work area.
Read and understand data and settings from cockpit instruments and gauges.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WL-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is: Ability to Lead or Supervise.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires moderate to strenuous effort. Incumbent will carry and lift heavy items weighting 25 pounds or less without assistance, for items weighting more than 25 pounds, the incumbent will utilize mechanical or human assistance. Hours of straight pulling are 1 per day. Hours of pushing are 1 per day. Hours of standing are 2 per day. Hours of crawling are ? per day. Hours of kneeling are 1 per day. Hours of repeated bending are 2 ? per day. Incumbent will on a regular and reoccurring basis climb on ladders or scaffolding, bend, stoop, crawl, and stand for prolonged periods on concrete or metal surfaces. Climbing, use of both legs, use of legs and arms required. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors required. Specific hearing requirements as apply hearing standard.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in hanger areas, outdoors, in parked aircraft, and sometimes in hazardous noise areas. Exposed to extremes in heat, cold, and inclement weather. Must work in confined areas and in awkward positions. Exposed to dust, dirt, grease, oils, fuels, aircraft fluids, hydraulic fluid, and solvents (degreasing agents). Working in industrial areas with electrical energy. Slippery or uneven surfaces. Working around machinery with moving parts. Working around moving objects or vehicles. Vibration. Subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strain, and injury from falls off scaffolds, ladders, and aircraft surfaces. Must work on aircraft surfaces 15 feet or more above ground using safety harness and safety cables. Must wear personal protective equipment such as coveralls, gloves, and eye and ear protection.
