THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (T32), Position Description Number D1063000 and is part of the AL AASF 1, National Guard. ORGANIZATION: AASF 1, HOPE HULL, AL SELECTING OFFICIAL: SFC W. WALKER

Duties

-- Manages, monitors or performs overall maintenance, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more highly technical, high performance military aircraft. Performs work in complex conditions under time and/or mission constraints to include all weather and night operations. Works with, coordinates and oversees the work of lower graded aircraft mechanics and certifies the work of journey level workers in other trades working on the assigned aircraft. -- Ensures Unit Level Logistics-Aviation (ULLS-A) and other aircraft documentation accurately reflects status and airworthiness of assigned aircraft. Provides technical guidance and assistance to flight crews regarding observed discrepancies, experienced in-flight characteristics and system malfunctions. Performs or assists in aircrew debriefing. -- Clears Red X status symbols on aircraft forms for work performed by others. Performs in-process and final inspection of others' work on assigned aircraft and components and certifies by signature adherence to work procedures and quality standards established by applicable publications. Participates in Maintenance Test Flights as a crewmember or Technical Observer (TO), as required. May participate in operational flights as a crewmember or Flight Engineer. Makes decisions on a wide range of matters to ensure assigned aircraft is in the highest state of readiness and that maintenance performed is in accordance with the highest standards of safety, quality and technical compliance. -- Plans, develops and conducts proficiency training during the technician work week to a multi-faceted workforce comprised of Full Time Support (FTS) and supported unit personnel. Sessions are designed to provide training in techniques of repair and maintenance of aircraft and related equipment. MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military grade in the Alabama Army National Guard. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Each applicant must fully substantiate (in his/her own words) that he/she meets the requirements of the Specialized Experience listed below: Otherwise, the applicant will be considered unqualified for this position. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess at least 18 months experience in each of the following tasks: In addition to journey-level experience or training equivalent to or exceeding the WG-10 or WU-10 grade level, positions at this grade level may include performing duties as a dedicated crew chief. Other positions may include responsibility for performing, coordinating, and/or overseeing the work and any periodic inspections to be done on an aircraft whether it is alone, or with the assistance of other mechanics and/or workers. Some positions may include coordinating the work of other journey-level workers in other trades to work simultaneously on the aircraft. Other positions may include serving as the technical authority to advise on, examine, and approve all airframe, mechanical, electrical, and pneudraulic repairs of assigned aircraft. SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE: -- The Crew Chief occupies a significant role in the military mission of the Army National Guard AASF. The incumbent is recognized as the technical expert and authority in ensuring that complex military aircraft are prepared to carry out the day-to-day training Mission. The incumbent is also responsible for maintaining the equipment for wartime eventualities. The incumbent understands the technical theory and operational characteristics, not only of airframe, but also of mission systems peculiar to the unit aircraft and assigned mission. The Crew Chief knows the theory and operation of aircraft systems to troubleshoot malfunctions and problems, and determine the extent of repairs and involvement of others in expediting the aircrafts return to combat ready status. Skill and knowledge is required to resolve problems and devise solutions when aircraft are not at home station, or at a location where the full complement of support equipment, supplies, parts, tools and maintenance personnel are not available. It is the intention of NGB/AVS the incumbent has the following qualifications: -- Must have three years experience and/or appropriate training in such functions as troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, servicing, inspecting, and modifying aircraft, aircraft installed equipment and related ground support equipment. -- Must have experience and/or appropriate training that would demonstrate a thorough knowledge of aircraft systems and components in electrical, fuel, hydraulic, environmental and mechanical principles. Insures proper work sequence planning and review, and a thorough understanding of technical orders, maintenance regulations and management operating procedures. -- The incumbent must possess or be eligible for award of the appropriate security clearance for this position. -- The incumbent may be required for NGB Non-Aviator Flying Status and qualified for Class III flying duties.
