Performs a variety of duties in support of the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Community Recreation program that may include special events, recreation information/resources, command events, visiting ships or fleet support, community events, trips, tours, outings, party and picnic rental equipment, resale tickets, recreational green space management, bowling, Library, Liberty, grab-n-go, movies, and outdoor recreation.
Requirements
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- Must meet federal suitability requirements including successful completion of background investigation.
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, without a fixed schedule. Administrative work is performed in a normal office setting.
- Irregular working hours may be required to include early shift, late shift, evenings, weekends and holidays when the need arises.
- May have to obtain and maintain the following certification within 90 days of hire: Emergency First Responder or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Food Handlers and/or C.A.R.E (Controlling Alcohol Risks Effectively).
- Wearing of protective clothing and equipment may be required as situations warrant.
Qualifications
FACTOR I - KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Practical knowledge of one or more recreation activities.
Skill in the maintenance and use of recreation materials and equipment.
Ability to perform routine program organization and administration tasks (e.g., maintaining attendance records, inventory records, preparing retail sales records, etc.).
Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively with others.
Must possess a valid CPR and First Aid Card or within the first 60 days of employment.
FACTOR II - SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
Works under the direct supervision of the Supervisory Recreation Specialist (Fitness Manager). Assignments are made by supervisor who provides specific instructions as to objectives, priorities and deadlines. Work is reviewed periodically to ensure assignments for accuracy, adequacy, and adherence to instructions and established procedures.
FACTOR III - GUIDELINES
Assignments are based on established program policies, procedures and regulations.
FACTOR IV - COMPLEXITY
Work consists of assignments to include, but not limited to, insuring only authorized personnel use the facility; issuing of gym equipment and towels; providing information; reviewing information; selling of retail items and control of inventory.
FACTOR V - SCOPE AND EFFECT
The position supports the daily activities of fitness center activities. The position impacts the perception, efficiency and effectiveness of the related programs.
FACTOR VI - PERSONAL CONTACTS
Contacts are made with co-workers throughout the organization and patrons of the activities.
FACTOR VII - PURPOSE OF CONTACTS
Personal contacts involve the exchange of information. Contacts require interpersonal skills in influencing the delivery of programs and services.
FACTOR VIII - PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work requires walking, carrying, lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds, standing, stooping and bending.
FACTOR IX - WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed within a fitness center and/or gymnasium.
Education
A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
