The primary purpose of this position is to perform accounting duties and clerical work regarding the receipt, disbursement, examination, deposit, and safeguarding of cash and checks and is located in the Administrative Division of the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Dept. (MWR) at NCBC GULFPORT.
Duties
Manages, counts, and verifies daily cash receipts. Balances and prepares bank deposits
Screens personal checks, reconciles cash to activity reports
Reviews, examines, verifies, and analyzes for validity, completeness and accuracy.
Responsible for verifying all movements recorded for deposit bags
Assists in balancing and maintaining records for all cash transactions
Verifying accounts with Accounting and Bookkeeping
Works to assist supervisor for all tasks related to accounting/ deposits/ bookkeeping etc.
Billing and Collections
Write offs for accounts older than 180 days if necessary
Assists with all travel orders
May perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
- Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- You must go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9.
- May be required to pass pre-employment examinations.
- Must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National.
- A valid State driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles.
- Must have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
Qualifications

One year of specialized experience directly related to the duties described above. Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression.
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
One year of experience using generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and theories to perform tasks in an integrated double entry accrual accounting system to review and analyze financial information; and to maintain routine accounting data in appropriate ledgers and journals.
Knowledge of and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and theories to perform tasks in an integrated double entry accrual accounting system to review and analyze financial information; and to maintain routine accounting data in appropriate ledgers and journals.
Ability to read, review and analyze financial statements, reports, accounting ledgers and journals
Knowledge of related functional areas, finance, to investigate and resolve errors, incompatible information, or other similar discrepancies using well-established approaches.
Knowledge of basic math and able to use a 10 key calculator.
Knowledge of and ability to utilize a computer, to include automated accounting systems and standard office applications, sufficient to input a range of standard information or adjustments, understand recurring error reports and take corrective action, and generate a variety of standard reports.
Knowledge of frequently used and clearly stated procedures and regulations to respond to recurring questions from vendors, agency or activity personnel, customers, and others.
