The Office of Facilities and Property Management is looking for a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic to maintain, repair, and modify heavy duty vehicles and mobile equipment which have utility systems or special hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical or electronic systems, features, or controls designed for such purposes as construction, earth moving, firefighting and comparable industrial or special applications.
Duties
This position:
The primary purpose of this position is nonsupervisory work involved in the maintenance, repair, and modification of heavy-duty vehicles and mobile equipment which have utility systems or special hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, electrical, or electronic systems, features, or controls designed for such purposes as construction, and comparable industrial or special applications.
Independent repair and maintenance on a variety of equipment such as forklifts, diesel front-end loaders, diesel tractors, backhoes, bucket trucks, dump trucks, utility vehicles, lawnmowers, and snow removal equipment.
Inspects, performs preventive maintenance, and completes repairs on a variety of engines, transmissions, transfer cases, drive line, multiple hydraulic utility systems, diagnoses, repairs electrical systems and road tests equipment.
Operates the divisions heavy equipment, acts as backup to the snow crew chief and is a member of the snow removal crew.

Qualifications
There is no specific length or level of experience requirements. The applicant's overall background of experience, education and training must clearly demonstrate the ability to independently perform the duties described in the announcement such as the maintenance, repair, overhaul or modification of heavy mobile equipment and vehicles on NIST owned or supported equipment. Supervisor assigns work orally or through work orders or schedules. The applicant independently determines work methods, sequences, tools, and equipment to use in making the extensive and complex repairs to the vehicles and equipment under the general direction of the Grounds Shop Supervisor.
Also, may be required to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B within 9 months of employment to support snow removal operations. May be required to submit proof of an existing CDL during hiring process if already in possession of said CDL.
