THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a MATERIALS HANDLER (SMALL SHOP CHIEF) (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1909000 and is part of the IL USPFO, National Guard.

Duties

As a MATERIALS HANDLER (SMALL SHOP CHIEF) (TITLE 32),WG-6907-7, you will serve as a Small Shop Chief (SSC) with the responsibility for the overall operations of a small shop. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Plan and lay out work to be accomplished in the shop which is then completed by the individual and lower graded worker(s). Possess the knowledge and skills found at the journeyman level as well as those required for planning, accomplishing and maintaining a functional shop maintenance program. Independently determine appropriate maintenance procedures such as how and when the work should be accomplished. Devise and maintain all program plans and records, is skilled in surveillance and troubleshooting techniques, and is able to determine maintenance/repair procedures needed without benefit of technical supervisory guidance. Plan, organize and direct shop maintenance programs/procedures under general supervision. Determine approaches, methods and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner. May provide recommendations and input to the supervisor concerning personnel actions such as performance appraisals, awards, position description changes, disciplinary actions, leave, etc.

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code ? 709), will be in the following manner and sequence: The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees. The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible. The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership. The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades: Enlisted - May not exceed the rank of SSG. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possessexperience or training which demonstrates the ability to compare item identification against receiving reports and issue request forms; skill in using hand trucks, dollies, and other equipment to move stock; ability to use hammers, pliers, and other hand tools; and to follow oral and written instructions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-07 Level - MUST possessspecialized experience which includes 12 months of performing inventory and inspections to determine serviceability of stocked items; experience in interpreting and applying written instructions, reference materials, publications, and manuals; and experience in setting up and rotating storage locations considering factors such as life expectancy, available space, product turnover, etc. In order to be considered qualified, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in Federal service. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
