You will serve as a METAL FORMING MACHINE OPERATOR in the PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PSNS and IMF.

Duties

You will set up and operate multi-axis machines to cut and form products from a wide variety of materials used in the fabrication, repair, and overhaul of Naval vessels. You will layout, and perform tasks by reviewing multi-view blueprints, shop directives, technical manuals, and technical work documents (TWD's). You will apply shop mathematics, and use a number of measuring devices such as tape measures, calipers, gauges, scales and meters as well as conversion charts to determine dimensions and make necessary computations. You will perform troubleshooting to determine if a machine has an operational problem or if operator controlled features requires attention or adjustment. You will assist in the use of metallic or non-metallic parts as models to deconstruct and reverse manufacture existing parts to cut or form material to create duplicates or templates. You will select, install, and align consumables to assist in the production of parts within specified tolerances.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
