The Center Director is responsible for the development, education, vocational training and potential employability of a student population comprised of "at-risk" youth. The Center functions as a full service co-educational community for a residential population of approximately 225 students, continuously 24 hours per day, year round. Duties

Direct and manage the operation of a Job Corps Center, and work as a team member. Manage a highly diverse operation of unrelated activities, 24 hours per day, 7-days a week operation where critical incidents and cases is the norm. Develop program goals, multi-year operational plans and strategic plans. Coordinate various Center programs, goals and activities. Make decisions relative to the management to the Center and devise solutions to problem not susceptible to treatment by traditional methods. Lead, motivate, coach and relate to young people from all walks of life so that they may re-enter society with improved work and social skills. Work with other Federal department s and agencies, local governmental organizations and community organizations to ensure Center program operate effectively.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

  • Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

Specialized experience is defined as the majority of the following: supporting a program or organization responsible for the development, education, vocational training and potential employability of "at-risk" youth in need of basic education, social, and vocational skills; providing advice and counsel to organizational personnel concerning residential group living program issues and their current and anticipated effects; assisting with program responsibilities that included most of the following: program development, planning, budgeting, or identifying workforce and organizational needs to establish and meet priorities. For the GS-13: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as the majority of the following: Provided counsel to higher organizational levels concerning residential group living program issues and their current and anticipated effects; exercised program responsibilities that included one or more of the following: program development, planning, budgeting, or identifying workforce and organizational needs to establish and meet priorities; and/or interacted with internal and external agency, community groups, members of the general public, and industry to discuss or explain residential group living management policies and regulations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
