This position is NOT REMOTE, the Duty Station is in Honolulu, HI and Relocation Expenses will not be paid.
This is a term appointment not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 4 years without further competition. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status in the Federal service.

GS-07 Salary: $48,567 (Step 01) to $63,137 (Step 10)
GS-08 Salary: $53,786 (Step 01) to $69,926 (Step 10)
NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.
The selectee may also be entitled to a cost of living allowance of 9.28% in addition to the basic salary.

As a Biological Science Laboratory Technician within the National Wildlife Health Center, Honolulu Field Station, some of your specific duties will include:
Qualifications
For GS-07:
Applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-07 level:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level in the Federal service that is in or related to the duties of this position. Specialized experience may include work as a technician or aid in a research activity involving investigating disease of marine organisms with a focus on marine invertebrates such as echinoderms or corals in laboratory and sometimes field settings.
Examples of GS-06 level assignments include: 1) Working with animal cells under sterile conditions, 2) Using microscopy to characterize animal cells, 3) Demonstrated ability to run various laboratory techniques such as western blot, gel electrophoresis, PCR. 4) Compiling and summarizing data from surveys, biological evaluations, and pilot tests; and/or running routine computer programs and checking resulting data for inconsistencies. For examples 1-4, a designated authority initially provided direction on the priorities and objectives for work assignments and assisted with any unusual situations that did not have clear precedents.
**OR applicants may substitute successful completion of 1 year of appropriate graduate level education (18 semester hours, 27 quarter hours or the equivalent) in biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics or other field of study directly related to the work of this position for the required 1 year of specialized experience if it provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of this position.
**OR applicants may substitute a combination of appropriate specialized experience (as described above) and appropriate graduate level education (as described above) that is beyond the first 1/2 year of progressive graduate study to meet the qualification requirements.
For GS-08:
Applicants must meet one of the following to qualify for the GS-8 level:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Examples of GS-7 level work may include: applying an understanding of issues related to biological investigations and the specialty of the position; participating in planning projects and making decisions on the methods and procedures to be used, as well as improving, adapting, or developing techniques, procedures, or equipment.; using specialized microscopy techniques such as immunohistochemistry.
**OR applicants may substitute successful completion of 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education (36 semester hours, 54 quarter hours or the equivalent) leading to a master's degree or possession of a master's degree in the biological sciences or other field of study directly related to the work of this position for the required 1 year of specialized experience if it provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of this position.
**OR applicants may substitute a combination of appropriate specialized experience (as described above) and appropriate graduate level education (as described above) that is beyond the first 1 1/2 years of progressive graduate study to meet the qualification requirements.
