About the Position: Welder position with the United States Army Engineer District, Huntington Regional Rivers Repair Fleet, Medium Capacity Fleet Unit, duty location at Neville Island, TN.
Duties
Perform welding duties such as pre-heating, brazing and bead welding, tack welding, flame cutting, pressure welding and heat treating.
Operate and control the various movements of the crane and load to avoid quick drops, jerks or sudden movements which may cause cables to break or loads to fall.
Interpret technical data of various types of drawling manuals, specifications, blueprints and sketches, etc. which contribute to the accomplishment of the job.
Use templates, jigs, blueprints, and other guides to repair, modify or fabricate metal items.
Operate forklifts on uneven conditions to unload vehicles and move materials in outside storage yards.
Use electric, oxyacetylene, oxyhydrogen gas metal arc, gas tungsten arc, and gas carbon arc welding processes to weld metal parts.
Utilize a variety of hand and power tools to position, bend, shape, or modify assemblies or components in a safe and effective manner to accomplish assigned work.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires to obtain and maintain all Corps of Engineers licenses.
- This position requires a pre-employment physical exam.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
- This position requires to lift objects weighing up to 50 and up to 100 pounds.
- This position requires a valid State motor vehicles operators' license.
- This position requires obtain and maintain American Welding Society (AWS) Code D1.1 welders certificate.
- The business travel requirement is 75%.
Qualifications
Seasonal employment means annually recurring periods of work of less than 12 months each year. Seasonal employees are permanent employees who are placed in non-duty/non-pay status and recalled to duty in accordance with pre-established conditions of employment. Seasonal employees are eligible for the same benefits offered to full-time employees.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Welder without more than normal supervision. Performing repair, modify or fabricate all types of metal and alloy parts, working processes include pre-heating, brazing, flame-cutting, heat treating, bead or tack welding, and the use of templates and jigs as needed to bend and cut metal of various shapes, sizes, and thickness; Using blueprints, sketches, work orders, specifications, or other guides to plan, layout, and work orders to complete assignments; Operating a heavy equipment such as overhead cranes, dump truck, aria lifts, and forklifts to assures proper fit of required safety equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Requires considerable standing, stooping, and bending. Works from ladders and scaffolds requiring prolonged overhead work or working in cramped or awkward positions. Climbs vertical ladders of up to 100 feet in height. Frequently lifts, positions, and carries items such as bricks, block, stone, mortar, cement, and sand weighing from 50 to 100 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed largely outside during the day or night subject to inclement weather and extreme temperature variations, on high structures usually over water that is frequently turbulent, in the proximity of moving machinery and energized electrical equipment, and sometimes on floating craft or elevated platforms. Occasionally will work behind bulkheads which are below the water level. Incumbent is also subject to falls, drowning, injury, discomfort, hazardous atmospheres and loud noises. Uses safety equipment such as hearing and eye protection, PFDs, hard hats, hard toe shoes, safety belts, respirators, protective clothing and other personal protective equipment. Working conditions have been considered in evaluation of the job, and any instances of environmental differential pay are spelled out in the Negotiated Agreement. Temporary duty assignments may be required for training purposes.
