This position is located in GAO's International Affairs and Trade (IAT) mission team. IAT leads GAO's work in U.S. foreign policy and international economic interests. The position's primary purpose is to assist in the development, refinement, publication, and delivery of graphics for GAO products. Visual Communications Analysts work with small teams developing product messages and ensuring the messages are presented clearly and convincingly in graphics that meet GAO's quality standards.
Duties
As a Communications Analyst (Visual), CS-1001-1 your typical work assignments may include the following:
Provides visual communications support concurrently to multiple engagement teams, individuals and organizations.
Analyzes written information and data to develop visual products that help the reader gain a better and faster understanding of the material.
Creates charts, maps, diagrams, illustrations, and other visual products (including photographs, videos, and animations). Develops conceptual framework for designs and maintains consistency of design across visuals that conform to style standards.
Provides objective comments and suggestions to teams and individuals to improve the design and organization of GAO products. Creates clear and convincing visuals and designs that meet GAO's standards.
Works collegially with people who have a wide range of experience and expertise, and presents detailed information clearly and succinctly.
Qualifications
Applicants can qualify for this position through education and/or experience. If qualifying based on education, transcripts are required.
To qualify for this position you must meet one of the following:
Possess a Bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement. S.A.A. is based on (1) class standing in the upper one-third of graduating class, or (2) a grade-point average of 3.0 or better out of a possible 4.0, or (3) national honor society membership.
OR
Have completed 1 full academic year of graduate level education that has equipped you to perform the duties of the position.
OR
Applicants must have 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower band or level equivalent to the AC-I or GS-5 in the Federal Service, or comparable private/public sector experience which has equipped the applicant with the skills and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as (1) analyzing data or other information for the purpose of recommending, creating, and improving graphic designs based on that information; (2) developing a wide variety of visual representations (e.g., flow charts, timelines, infographics, maps, interactive graphics, videos, animations, photos, illustrations) to help communicate clear messages; and (3) balancing a variety of products or projects simultaneously.
NOTE: Positions in GAO are covered under the agency's performance based compensation system, which is pay banded. This position is classified as a CS-1001, Band I, which is equivalent to the GS-7 level in the federal government.
