Requirements

• The incumbent of this position description must have, at a minimum, a completed National Agency Check (NAC) prior to position assignment. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security clearance.
• May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
• Continued employment in this position is contingent upon satisfactory completion of the mandatory training specifically identified for the position.
• Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
• Irregular and overtime hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies.
• Position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration and will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG.
• Must be licensed/certified by a U.S jurisdiction at a level that allows practice of clinical social work without supervision.
• Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. Position may be identified as having “regular contact with children,” requiring a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check to be completed on any person selected.
• This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
• Position requires Basic Life Support (BLS) in accordance with local MDG policies. Must be obtained with 6 months of onboarding.
• Possess and maintain a current, unrestricted license to practice clinical social work independently in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia or the U.S Virgin Islands.
• Completion of appropriate clinical and administrative duties may involve “after hours” care or work in addition to regular duty hours.
• Must be privileged for independent practice by the Credentials Committee at the employing Medical Treatment Facility.
• Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
• Incumbent may share on-call duty during weeknights and/or weekends on a rotational basis as required consistent with other mental health professionals of the same specialty performing like duties.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain privileging for the DOD/AFMS/ANGMS IAW DHA PM 6025-13 Vol 4 and DAFMAN 44-119. Must maintain credentials requirements at all times.
• Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Government Travel Credit Card (GTCC) as a condition of continued employment.

As a part of the ANG Wing Director of Psychological Health (WDPH) Program, the incumbent of this position provides access to a full range of professional services for the populations served. The Air National Guard Psychological Health Program (ANG PHP) will provide consultation to operational leadership on psychological health issues and vertical integration of Military Service and Department of Defense (DOD)-wide psychological health initiatives and population-health monitoring. Clinical and administrative duties focus on outreach, education and prevention, needs-based and psychosocial assessment, diagnosis, short-term problem resolution, and provision of or referral to evidenced-based interventions. Responsibilities include providing primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention programs, specialty training for ANG health care professionals and other personnel on issues related to the psychological health of Airmen and their families, and multi-level community organization, collaboration, and enhancement. Individuals requiring clinical interventions (i.e., clinical treatment) for other than short-term problem resolution should immediately be referred to an appropriate and competent clinical professional. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is partially sedentary and may involve walking, standing, bending, light lifting/carrying, and operating personal computers and other office equipment. There is occasional travel between military and non-military facilities both within and outside the assigned area to attend meetings, complete training, and maintain unrestricted privileges. Considerable mental stress may be imposed due to the highly personal, sensitive, and complex nature of the services provided as well as the responsibilities involved. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The work environment involves moderate risks that require special safety precautions. Some work is performed in a semi-controlled clinical environment that may be unprotected by a duress alarm system or safety doors and other work environments will frequently involve other locations both on and off the installation. The incumbent is to regularly exercise (i.e. review and/or practice) various scenarios to include responding to mental health emergencies including potentially violent clients. This position may occasionally require exposure to individuals under great personal and emotional stress. Some degree of hazard is present in working with emotionally distressed individuals and all precautions must be followed to protect the safety of clients/patients, family members, coworkers, and the public in general while exercising the highest degree of ethics. The incumbent must be completely trustworthy in dealing with highly sensitive information. Additionally, there are the normal risks or discomforts common to various office settings, travel, collaboration with other professionals and non-professionals, and military settings in general. Work areas should remain adequately lighted, heated or cooled, and ventilated. This experience demonstrates competencies of knowledge of social work theories, principles, techniques, and resources, skills, and abilities to successfully performing duties such as interviewing people to establish the nature and extent of their problems; helping them work-out plans for improving the situation; providing assistance and services; referring them to community resources and other organizations as indicated; assisting them to understand and modify their own patterns of behavior when appropriate; supporting the commander's leadership team in addressing the psychological health solutions of their installation; providing strategic planning and leadership; conducting annual training for unit leadership on psychological health issues; participating in community activities and in relevant committee meetings; educating NG leadership on how to recognize and assist individuals experiencing psychological health conditions; collecting information on clients who attempt suicide; providing consultation to the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC); responding to inquiries from National Guard Bureau, Wing Commanders, Air Force Medical Operations Agency, Air Force Medical Standards Agency, Major Command Mental Health Consultants; conducting assessments, routine and crisis evaluations, psycho-diagnostic assessments; providing short-term, evidence-based problem resolution on cases; carrying professional responsibility for findings, interpretations, decisions, recommendations, reports and services; designing, developing, coordinating, and implementing prevention and community outreach and education programs; providing professional consultation, advice, education, and training to other military and non-military health care professionals, medical personnel. Note: A minimum of two (2) years within the past five (5) years in the independent practice of clinical social work is highly desired.

Education

MANDATORY EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Master's in Social Work from an institution accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Candidate must be a fully qualified Mental Health professional IAW AFI 44-119. Applicants who complete the Air Force Social Work Internship Program may be substituted for 12 months of the specialized experience requirement. No other substitution of education for specialized experience is allowed.
