Duties

Operate and instruct on the safe operation of engineering and/or construction equipment such as graders, skid steers, mini excavators, and tractors with varying attachments to perform cutting, moving, digging, grading, and trenching. Utilize equipment with masticator heads to complete vegetation treatment projects. Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections on engineering equipment and/or moto vehicles. Coordinate the completion of major equipment and/or vehicle repairs and safety inspections. Assist with the design and draft of project plans and technical schematics.

Requirements

  • You must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Class A, B or C endorsement.

  • May require a one year probationary/trial period.
  • This is a Drug Testing Designated Position. You will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use and pass prior to appointment. This position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Specialized Experience WG-8: The ability to perform safe operation and instruction of engineering/construction equipment such as graders, skid steers, mini excavators, and tractors with varying attachments to perform cutting, moving, digging, grading, and trenching tasks in varying terrain. I am also skilled in the operation of equipment in moderately steep terrain with some complicating factors such as ditches, gullies, and ravines. I am also skilled in operating equipment with masticator heads to complete vegetation treatment projects with no direct supervision. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: heavy physical effort is used by the operators in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Because of the location of some of the controls and attachments, the operators are frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions. Work Environment: Work is performed in all types of weather, often in an open driver's seat or platform, on hills, slopes, grades, rolling surfaces, and forests. The operators are exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning. They are subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust.

Education
