You will serve as an INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE TECHNICIAN in the Industrial Hygiene Department of NMRTC PORTSMOUTH VA. The positions will be working at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Occupational Health Clinic location. THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT. This announcement uses the OPM Federal Wide direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will develop findings, reports, and recommendations to support management decision-making. You will demonstrate skill in maintaining industrial hygiene equipment, calibrating equipment and provide training on equipment to other department staff. You will utilize OSHA and NIOSH methods to accurately collect industrial hygiene samples. You will ensure safe and healthy work environment for all personnel. You will enter sample information and results into DOEHRS-IH

Requirements

Qualifications

For GS-05:Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience demonstrating skill in utilizing DOEHRS-IH, spreadsheets, automated research tools and database applications Experience developing and presenting findings, reports or recommendations to managers inside of the organization; Experience interpreting and utilizing Navy and OSHA safety and health programs. For GS-06:Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience planning, managing, and performing sampling of potential health hazardous exposures to chemical, physical and biological stressors; Experience researching background documents and entering data into Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System (DOEHRS-IH) or similar online database; Experience calibrating industrial hygiene instrumentation, performing minor repairs, and annual inventory for sound analysis equipment, air sampling pumps and direct reading analytical equipment; Experience providing on the job training to junior technicians, and personnel in proper work procedures and industrial hygiene practices. For GS 06: Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One half year (9 semester hours) of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-6.
