Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-05/17/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. Selective Factors: Applicants must meet ALL of the following to qualify: Vertical Caving Experience: Possess vertical caving experience including single rope technique incorporating rebelays, traverses, and redirects to enter and exit vertical caves. The position has a basic requirement. You must have the required education or equivalent experience to satisfy the basic requirement for this position. Additionally, applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirement for this series and grade to be considered qualified. You must meet one of the following Basic Qualifications to be considered for this position. You must meet this by the close of the announcement. Applicants must have one of the following and submit documentation in their application on how they meet this requirement: Degree: Physical Science, Engineering, or Mathematics that included 24 semester hours in Physical Science and/or related Engineering Science such as Mechanics, Dynamics, Properties of Materials, and Electronics. -OR- Combination of education and experience: Education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in Physical Science and/or related Engineering Science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. - AND - To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include work in the fields of environmental science, physcial science, hydrology, and geology, conducting and/or assisting with natural resources research projects; compiling and analyzing scientific data for physical sciences research or natural resource-based studies or reports; conducting complex sampling, and monitoring equipment; collecting and analyzing environmental monitoring data such as water quality and quantity, soil erosion, and air quality; and setting-up and managing remote environmental monitoring equipment such as weather stations, or using computer programs such as databases to compile, store, retrieve, analyze and report resource management data. Experience with watershed restoration and/or erosion mitigation. Experieance in developing and carring out work plans, scope of works, and manangement plans pertainng to physical resource management. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least three full years of directly related graduate study leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, I have 6 months of the specialized experience described above (50% of the experience requirement), and one year of directly related graduate level college study in an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education). You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
