This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Temp/Term Appt Authority to meet Critical Hiring Needs to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is an Office Automation Clerk, GS-0326-02 Summer Hire position for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Galveston, Texas. This is a temporary appointment not to exceed 120 days but may be extended up to 180 days without further competition.

Duties

Types a variety of letters, memorandums and reports in support of the office using office automation equipment. Types material in final form, prints, reviews and makes any corrections needed for error-free originals. Ensures correct punctuation, capitalization, spelling, grammar and conformance in style. Receives calls, greets visitors and provides information requested or directs them to staff members for action. Routes, controls and distributes mail to several individuals in accordance with established procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A qualified typist who can type at least 40 words per minute is required.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. General Experience: Three months of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled, such as, experience manually or electronically filing documents, preparing various types of office correspondence, operating word processing software, receiving telephone calls and visitors as well as entering data into automated databases. OR Education: High school graduation (or equivalent) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 3. Then divide your total credit hours of education by the total number of credit hours required for graduation as set by your high school. Add the two percentages.
