This position is part of the Plant Operations, Government Publishing Office in Washington, District of Columbia.

Duties

Sets up, adjusts, operates, and maintains minor maintenance on bindery machinery and uses the machinability of various types of paper stock. Lifts signatures, fans, and bends the signatures and handfeeds them into appropriate numbers of pockets in sequence. Takes gathered (collated) signatures from the machine in prescribed quantities and stacks them onto a table or skid. Reports improperly processed material to the appropriate authority. Inspects, loads, and packs the signatures (or books) into cartons, and/or onto skids as required.

Requirements

• You must be a current Career or Career Conditional GPO employee to apply.
• Selectee may be required to pass preemployment requirements prior to appointment.
• Selectee must be able to obtain and maintain Nonsensitive Low Risk clearance
• Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period.
• TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. Applicants must have served 1 year at the next lower grade level or equivalent grade level of federal service to qualify

Qualifications

To qualify for the PPW (Bindery), KY - 4402 - 3 , you must meet the following requirements: Applicants must meet the following Screen-Out element, (Job Element #1) to be considered for this position. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the online questionnaire. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT below is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. The screen-out element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Printing Plant Worker (Bindery), KY-4402-3, without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT/JOB ELEMENT #1), to be considered for this position. Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of a Printing Plant Worker (Bindery), KY-4402-3. These duties require knowledge and technical skills to follow instructions which include maintaining accurate records; reading and writing simple arithmetic calculations; working on machines to do simple adjustments using switches and knobs; and skill in operating hand operated power trucks. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement (05/13/2024) to be considered.

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used or this grade level.
